Formulating, implementing and executing a strategy is too great a challenge to be surmounted in a fire-and-forget or ad hoc fashion. Indeed, strategic moves by competitors, changing economic conditions, innovations, employee demotivation, difficulties in transforming the organization and other internal and external events can derail an organization’s strategic endeavors at any time. To succeed, organizations must therefore arm themselves with a strategy management system that enables them to continuously monitor events, learn from them and respond with the right actions. The importance of having such a system has been demonstrated by several authors in strategy. This strategy management system must be made up of purposely designed and integrated processes; people with the right expertise, responsibilities and decision rights, who are organized in the right way; regular dedicated meetings involving executives and other stakeholders; supporting information systems; and the collection and analysis of key information. This strategy management system must also facilitate effective communication and help engage people in the transformation of the organization.
The ASATE Group Strategy Management System is a reference model that can be adapted to the specific circumstances of all organizations. It leverages business architecture and other best practices. This framework is documented in our book Business Architecture – The Missing Link in Strategy Formulation, Implementation and Execution.
